Nollywood actress Chioma Akpotha has publicly criticized streaming giant Netflix for releasing the official trailer of Femi Adebayo’s highly anticipated movie, Seven Doors, ahead of the producer’s planned timeline.

Netflix shared the trailer on its official Instagram page on Friday, captioning it:

“All hail the king. SEVEN DOORS will open 13 Dec. Only on NETFLIX.”

"Strategic Planning Ruined"

Akpotha expressed her displeasure in the comments section, accusing Netflix of disregarding the strategic buildup orchestrated by Femi Adebayo through a series of teasers.

She wrote:
“@naijaonnetflix Guys, like WTH! Do you not know what timing is? 😡 @femiadebayosalami had set the ball rolling by dropping teasers! People were already anticipating, only for it to be messed up by the full trailer release here… JUST LIKE THAT?! Do you not know what being strategic is? Kai.”

Fans and colleagues echoed her sentiments, with one commenter, Ganiyu Kolawole, quipping:
“Netflix didn’t even chill for Femi to open the fifth door on his page.”

Another added:
“At least una for align with the producer’s promotion tactics na.”

Building Hype for Seven Doors

Femi Adebayo had been steadily teasing fans with snippets and clues about the movie, successfully generating buzz. His promotional approach left fans eager for the December 13 release.

In an August interview, Adebayo described Seven Doors as a groundbreaking project, stating:

“The next movie, which is bigger than Jagun Jagun, is titled Seven Doors. It spans two eras: the 18th and 19th centuries, blending cultural themes from Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa traditions.”

The movie’s star-studded cast includes Femi Adebayo, Chioma Akpotha, Yinka Quadri, Wumi Toriola, Gabriel Afolayan, and others.

Fan Anticipation Remains High

Despite the hiccup, fans remain excited for the film, which promises to delve deep into Nigerian history and culture. Seven Doors will premiere exclusively on Netflix on December 13.

The premature release might have ruffled some feathers, but it has also amplified curiosity about what Seven Doors has in store.
