Chidimma Adetshina: South African Group Pushes for Miss Universe Nigeria Disqualification Amid Identity Fraud Scandal

In a dramatic turn of events, a South African group, Progressive Forces, has launched a petition calling for the disqualification of Nigeria’s Miss Universe contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, just as she arrived in Mexico to compete in the global pageant.

The group’s move comes amid allegations surrounding Adetshina’s eligibility and her mother’s purported involvement in a high-profile identity fraud case.

The petition surfaced shortly after Adetshina, crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, touched down in Mexico on Wednesday to prepare for the competition slated for November.

Progressive Forces of South Africa has now rallied over 1,000 signatures within just 24 hours, arguing that Adetshina’s participation could tarnish the Miss Universe brand.

The controversy traces back to Adetshina’s brief involvement in the Miss South Africa pageant, from which she withdrew following allegations by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs (DHA) that her mother was implicated in fraud and identity theft. DHA officials claimed that both Adetshina and her mother’s identities were subsequently revoked by court order, igniting a firestorm of public debate. 

“We are greatly concerned about Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria, whose mother has been found guilty of committing identity fraud," the petition reads. "On the 29th of October, Home Affairs canceled Chidimma Adetshina and her mother’s identities by court order. We are writing on behalf of everyone who stands for justice to plead with Miss Universe to cancel her entry.”

With tensions mounting, all eyes are now on the Miss Universe organizers, who have yet to respond to the petition. The unfolding saga adds an unexpected layer of suspense, leaving supporters and critics alike wondering if Adetshina’s journey to the crown might be cut short by forces beyond her control.
