Nigerian music heavyweight, Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, aka Kcee, has fired back at fellow Igbo artist Flavour, following an online shade hinting that someone was copying his style.
Though Flavour didn’t name names, Kcee clearly caught the drift and clapped back with a fierce response on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, escalating the tension into a full-on musical showdown.

Kcee dismissed Flavour’s accusations, declaring that they are "not on the same level" and issuing a bold warning for his colleague to “pick his battles carefully.” In his fiery response, Kcee criticized Flavour’s attempt to gatekeep Igbo cultural music, reminding him that he had been in the industry long before Flavour’s emergence.
“Bro, we are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully,” Kcee stated, further challenging Flavour’s perceived sense of ownership over the genre. He continued, “Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a custodian. I’ve been in this game before you.”
Kcee made it clear he wouldn’t apologize for embracing Igbo culture through his music: “Our heritage doesn’t belong to one person. People recognize authenticity, and I’ll keep celebrating our culture unapologetically. In an ocean of things that matter, you’re like a needle.”
As the battle lines seem to be drawn, fans from both sides have taken to social media, fueling the rivalry with spirited debates on originality, influence, and legacy in Igbo music. With neither artist backing down, the question remains: who truly owns the crown in Igbo cultural music?
