Veteran filmmaker and founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye, has thrown his support behind Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), following his public apology regarding a past teaching on tithing.
Pastor Adeboye recently admitted to making an error in a previous message where he claimed that non-payment of tithes could prevent one from entering heaven, a teaching that he has now retracted, stating that it’s not biblically accurate. Instead, Adeboye emphasized that the Bible calls for peaceful and holy living as prerequisites for making heaven.
In a statement addressing the apology, Bamiloye praised Adeboye's humility and courage, noting the difficulty of such an admission from a global religious leader.
Bamiloye stated, “You think it is easy for a man of such global status to come out in the open to apologize if God had not corrected him in the secret? Baba has heaven in his focus, and that is why he doesn’t care about earthly honour or human ego.”
Bamiloye stated, “You think it is easy for a man of such global status to come out in the open to apologize if God had not corrected him in the secret? Baba has heaven in his focus, and that is why he doesn’t care about earthly honour or human ego.”
He further added, *“It takes humility for a man of global status like this to come out and apologize. Only God could have spoken to such a man.”* Bamiloye urged critics to recognize the grace involved in Adeboye’s action, citing the biblical verse, “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).”
The apology and its aftermath have sparked mixed reactions, with some lauding Adeboye’s transparency while others expressed skepticism. Bamiloye’s statement, however, places emphasis on the spiritual significance of the apology and the reverence for divine correction over human approval.
As discussions around tithing and religious teachings continue, Pastor Adeboye’s apology marks a significant moment of reflection for both leaders and followers in the Christian community.
