Controversial media personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released from police custody after meeting his bail conditions. This development comes after his arrest last Friday in Lagos and subsequent transfer to Abuja, following a defamation and cyberstalking complaint filed by Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy.

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed Darlington's release via his X page, expressing gratitude to those who contributed to the process. Adeyanju revealed that Burna Boy’s complaint stemmed from a viral video in which Darlington questioned how the artist won his Grammy for the album Twice As Tall, suggesting that Burna Boy's affiliation with embattled US rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs—who is currently facing charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking—played a role in his win.

Darlington's remarks led to his quiet arrest by police. However, Adeyanju commended the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigerian Police for their professionalism throughout the process, while also acknowledging public figures and activists such as Yele Sowore for their contributions towards securing Darlington's release.

With the controversy surrounding Darlington's comments and Burna Boy's response, the situation has reignited debates on free speech and its limits in the entertainment industry.
