Speaking on a recent episode of the On The Grind podcast, the Mavin Records boss shared the unexpected ways his love for music influences his craft.
Known for his proficiency in multiple instruments, Don Jazzy revealed that his passion for drumming played a crucial role in his evolution as a producer. In a lighthearted moment, he confessed, "I literally drum all the time. I do it during sex. I can even drum on a woman’s buttocks if I get the inspiration for a beat at that time."
While his comment drew both amusement and curiosity, Don Jazzy emphasized that it’s his deep connection to rhythm and instruments, especially the drums, that fueled his love for production. He started with percussion, moved to the jazz drum, then transitioned to the bass guitar and piano, particularly during his time in London, where his career as a producer took shape.
The Mavin Records boss also revealed that he once lived in the studio for two years with producers Altims and Baby Fresh, solidifying his dedication to perfecting his craft.
Don Jazzy, who first gained recognition while working with JJC and the 419 Squad in the UK, later co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj in 2004 and became the in-house producer. Following the split of Mo’ Hits in 2012, he launched Mavin Records, which has since become one of Africa's top record labels.
With a stint as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s GOOD Music from 2011 to 2013, Don Jazzy's career continues to inspire aspiring producers and music lovers worldwide.
