Nigerian singer Korede Bello has sparked a heated debate after claiming that young artists are reducing the quality of music coming out of the country. The 28-year-old, known for his hit single Godwin, expressed his views on Hip TV’s Trending show, hosted by reality star KimOprah.
Bello argued that younger artists who achieve stardom early lack the life experiences needed to create meaningful music. “When you start to have young artists blowing up, the quality of the music starts to reduce because they don’t have quality experiences,” Bello explained. He believes that younger musicians tend to focus on living large, rather than crafting songs based on reality.
The singer pointed out legendary Nigerian artists like African China, Timaya, and Fela, whose music was shaped by real-life experiences. He contrasted their work with the output of younger stars, who he feels are unable to draw from the same depth of understanding.
However, Bello was quick to note that this isn’t entirely the fault of younger artists, saying, “You can only give what you have.”
His remarks have stirred conversations in the music industry, as fans and fellow artists weigh in on whether youth and inexperience are truly affecting the quality of Nigerian music today.
