In a groundbreaking announcement, Kendrick Lamar is set to become the first rapper in history to solo headline the Super Bowl halftime show in 2025. The event, slated for February 9th in New Orleans, was confirmed by the National Football League, Roc Nation, and Apple Music on Sunday.
“Kendrick is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” said Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation, in a statement. “He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. His work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
Reacting to the monumental announcement, Lamar expressed his excitement: “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
This marks a pivotal moment for Lamar, who has already earned 17 Grammy Awards and previously graced the Super Bowl stage in 2022 during the hip-hop showcase. The historic performance comes amid his ongoing feud with Drake, who previously boasted about being as big as the Super Bowl in one of his songs, adding further intrigue to the upcoming show.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the 2025 Super Bowl, where Lamar will showcase rap's continued dominance on one of the world’s biggest stages.
