Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his personal interest in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.

As residents of Edo State turned out in large numbers to vote, Davido took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged malpractices in the electoral process, sparking curiosity about his involvement.

Addressing the speculation surrounding his vested interest in the election, Davido clarified via his X handle that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, hailed from Edo State. He also emphasized that, as a Nigerian, he is concerned about electoral fairness across the country.

"My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha. @inecnigeria shame on you," Davido tweeted, referencing his previous public criticism of INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial election, where his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, ran successfully for governor.

The singer also recently endorsed the PDP candidate, Asuen Ighodalo, for the Edo election, further highlighting his active role in political matters related to his late mother’s home state.

Fans and followers have expressed mixed reactions, with many praising Davido's continued advocacy for fair elections, while others weigh in on his vocal support for specific candidates.
