Nigerian musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has opened up about the artists who have inspired his musical journey, particularly during his early days as a rapper.
In a recent interview with Sway Universe, Victony discussed the global and local hip-hop heavyweights who have influenced his artistry.

Victony shared that his initial inspiration came from renowned rapper Kendrick Lamar, whose artistry and unique visual storytelling deeply impacted him. "Kendrick is that one rapper who is not just about what he says but also his visualisation and the way he presents it to his fans. That made me a strong fan of Kendrick," he explained.
He also mentioned his admiration for Drake, particularly for his versatility and early embrace of Afrobeats, which resonated with Victony as a fan long before Drake’s crossover into the genre. Additionally, Victony cited J.Cole and Meek Mill as significant influences in his musical development.
On the local scene, Victony highlighted the impact of Nigerian rap legend MI Abaga. He credited MI with popularizing rap in Nigeria and inspiring young artists to pursue the genre. "MI Abaga inspires me too because he was one of the rappers that popularized the genre in Nigeria and made young artists believe it was possible to be successful as a rapper in the country," Victony said.
He also acknowledged the rising influence of contemporary Nigerian rappers like Odumodublvck and Shallipopi, noting that the rap scene in Nigeria is growing, and he sometimes blends rap with Afrobeats in his own music.

Looking ahead, Victony expressed his desire to inspire the next generation of Nigerian youth. "I am doing this for Doyin. I am doing this for the kids in Ojo. I hope that they look at me and get inspired," he shared, reflecting his commitment to being a role model for aspiring artists from his community.
