American rapper and record executive Rick Ross is facing a lawsuit after being accused of failing to make his popular Car & Bike Show accessible to disabled attendees.
The lawsuit was filed by Darris Straughter, a disabled man who alleges that despite purchasing a ticket and making arrangements for travel and lodging, he was unable to attend the event at Ross' 235-acre estate, known as "The Promised Land," in Fayetteville, Georgia.
The lawsuit was filed by Darris Straughter, a disabled man who alleges that despite purchasing a ticket and making arrangements for travel and lodging, he was unable to attend the event at Ross' 235-acre estate, known as "The Promised Land," in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Straughter, who has been disabled since a traumatic spinal cord injury in 2018, claims that he contacted the event organizers two weeks in advance to inform them of his accessibility needs. However, upon arrival, he found that the event lacked the necessary accommodations for disabled attendees, preventing him from participating.
Adding to his frustrations, Straughter alleges that the organizers had promised refunds to those unable to attend the event, but he never received any follow-up or compensation. Represented by attorney John Hoover Esq., Straughter is now suing Rick Ross for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The lawsuit seeks not only monetary damages but also a court order mandating that future car shows hosted by Ross provide proper accessibility for disabled individuals. The case highlights ongoing issues of accessibility at public events and the legal responsibilities of organizers to accommodate all attendees.
