Nigerian singer Omah Lay has opened up about a disappointing experience in which a fellow artist allegedly stole the concept for what was supposed to be his next album.

During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay revealed that he had shared his idea with the unnamed colleague, intending to collaborate. However, the artist went ahead and released an album using the concept Omah Lay had discussed with him.

Omah Lay, known for his distinctive sound, shared that this incident forced him to re-record his album. “My song ‘Holy Ghost’ is a new sound. I was going to make the whole album with the new sound but along the line, I changed my mind,” he explained.

The singer expressed his frustration over the situation, stating, “I shared an idea with a certain artist and the artist went ahead and put out an album with my idea, and I had to re-record my album.”

The singer further elaborated on the incident, noting that the artist in question was someone he admired and had agreed to collaborate with. "Of course, it’s an artist that I love. And I told him where I’m headed with the sound. Five months later, he put out an album with exactly all the same sound that I shared with him," Omah Lay recounted.

Despite the setback, Omah Lay is optimistic about the outcome, as he believes the revised version of his album will be monumental. “I had to go back and remake my album which is actually going to be the greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history,” he confidently stated.

The incident sheds light on the challenges artists face in protecting their creative ideas, even among peers in the industry. Fans are now eagerly anticipating the release of Omah Lay’s reworked album, which he promises will make a significant impact in the Afrobeats genre.
