Maleek Berry Recalls Surprising Encounter with ‘Humble’ Davido in Their Early Days

Afrobeats singer and producer Maleek Berry has shared a surprising story about his early interactions with fellow artist Davido.

During an appearance on the ’90s Baby’ podcast, the ‘Kontrol’ hitmaker recounted how Davido, despite his wealthy background, blended in as if he were just another struggling artist.

Berry revealed that when they were both upcoming artists, he had no idea of Davido’s privileged upbringing. “He acted around us like one of those poor kids,” Berry shared, recalling how they worked together in a London studio. It wasn't until Berry visited Davido’s father’s mansion that he realized the true extent of his colleague’s wealth. “There’s money and there’s money! When I saw the tower, I was like, okay, they’re rich.”

The producer also credited Davido for connecting him with Wizkid, leading to collaborations that would shape Berry’s career. The story has sparked interest among fans, shedding light on the early days of two of Nigeria’s biggest music stars and Davido’s unassuming nature despite his affluent background.
