He explained that his musical background as an instrumentalist made it easy for him to learn studio production. However, it was his encounter with Mr Raw that truly set him on the path to becoming a singer.
"From learning studio productions, I became a producer. It was so easy because I was already an instrumentalist. From there, I started getting gigs as a producer. I used to charge N5,000 per beat," Flavour recalled.
Flavour shared how Mr Raw encouraged him to expand his horizons beyond producing music. "Some weekends, Mr Raw would ask me to be his backup singer at his shows. I left the bar where I was playing live music and started following Mr Raw. Everything changed when I saw people vibing to a chorus I did for one of Mr Raw’s songs."
This experience was a turning point for Flavour, as he realized his potential to create his own music. "I told myself that if I can do the chorus, it means I can put a song together. I should start creating my own. Mr Raw was the guy that opened my eyes to what being an artist is."
Flavour's journey from producing beats to becoming a celebrated singer highlights the importance of mentorship and taking risks to pursue one's passion.
Since releasing his debut album N’abania in 2005, Flavour has grown to become a prominent figure in African music, known for his unique blend of Highlife and contemporary sounds.
