U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada announced the charges during a press conference, revealing the involvement of a criminal network that exploited Perry's addiction for profit.
The charges come after an extensive investigation into Perry's death on October 28, 2023, which the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office determined was due to acute ketamine toxicity.
Among those charged is Jasveen Sangha, infamously known as "the Ketamine Queen," who is accused of supplying the ketamine that led to Perry's overdose.
Additionally, Dr. Salvador Plasencia and Dr. Mark Chavez are alleged to have distributed the drug outside of accepted medical practices, further contributing to the fatal incident.

Perry's live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, who reportedly administered ketamine injections to Perry despite lacking medical training, is also among those facing charges. Erik Fleming, another figure implicated in the distribution and sale of ketamine, has been charged for his role in the illegal operation.
The investigation, which involved multiple agencies including the DEA and LAPD, uncovered a disturbing pattern of exploitation. DEA Administrator Anne Milgram emphasized that Perry, who had been receiving ketamine therapy for depression, increasingly turned to illicit sources as his dependency grew.
The charges against Sangha, Plasencia, Chavez, and the others carry severe consequences, with Sangha potentially facing life imprisonment.
The case highlights the dangers of illegal drug distribution and the devastating impact of addiction, underscoring the need for stricter regulations and oversight in the handling of controlled substances.
The ongoing legal proceedings continue to shed light on the tragic circumstances surrounding Matthew Perry's death and the criminal activities that contributed to it.
