Afrobeats sensation Rema, also known as Divine Ikubor, has achieved a new milestone with his sophomore album HEIS on Spotify Nigeria. Released on July 11, 2024, the 11-track album debuted with an impressive 2.71 million streams on its opening day, marking the highest for any album in 2024.
This record-breaking achievement surpasses Olamide's Ikigai, which previously held the top spot with 1.86 million streams. HEIS now ranks as the third biggest opening day stream for an album in Nigeria, following Burna Boy's I Told Them and Davido's Timeless.
The album's release has ignited a wave of mixed reactions on social media. While some fans and critics have praised Rema for his bold musical experimentation and evolution, others have pointed out perceived weaknesses in the album. Despite the mixed reviews, HEIS highlights Rema's versatility and growth as an artist, as he embraces a more rockstar-like persona in this new phase of his career.
