Veteran Nollywood actress Binta Ayo Mogaji, fondly known as Mama Insurance, recently shared her inspiring journey to motherhood at the age of 40 on the ‘Talk To B’ podcast.
Mogaji revealed that she faced significant health challenges, including undergoing surgery to remove one of her fallopian tubes due to an ectopic pregnancy. Despite this, she successfully gave birth to her son through natural means a few weeks after turning 40.
Reflecting on her journey, Mogaji recounted, “Unfortunately enough, the pregnancy was ectopic. They took me to seven different hospitals. The doctor said he wasn’t sure I could survive until the next day. The operation took them, like, seven to nine hours. Some of my colleagues who visited me at the hospital were crying. The surgeons had to remove one fallopian tube. But I’m living with one and I had my child through natural birth."
The actress explained that she had decided to adopt a child if she didn't conceive by 40. “I stopped looking for a husband; I wanted to make a baby. I said if I don’t have a baby until I’m 40, then I’ll adopt a child."
Her partner, Jibola, entered her life just before her milestone birthday, but both were not interested in marriage at the time. “Jibola came shortly before I was 40 because I had my baby six weeks after I became 40 years old. But he didn’t want to get married as well,” she added.
Mogaji's story highlights her resilience and determination to become a mother despite the odds, providing inspiration to many who face similar challenges.
