Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has expressed her disappointment over the enthusiasm shown by fans of Big Brother Naija (BBN), despite the severe economic challenges currently plaguing Nigeria.

The ninth season of the popular reality TV show kicked off on July 28, featuring 28 housemates who appeared in pairs. The show's return has sparked widespread excitement among Nigerians, providing a temporary escape from the harsh realities of daily life.

However, Etiko took to her Instagram page on Monday to question the jubilant reaction to the show. She voiced her concern about the nation's focus on entertainment while many citizens struggle to survive.

"E don red for our country and I still see some people dey happy about BBN," Etiko wrote. "Hmmmmm nawa o oh una still get enough money for DATA Abi? If you guys do not complain, then who am I to do so? I am majorly concerned about the poor masses, though. That you can survive does not mean that everyone can.”

Etiko's comments highlight the ongoing debate about the balance between entertainment and addressing critical national issues. Her post has garnered mixed reactions, with some fans agreeing with her stance, while others argue that shows like BBN provide much-needed relief and distraction from daily struggles.

The current season of Big Brother Naija, themed "No Loose Guard," promises exciting twists and drama designed to keep viewers engaged for the next 10 weeks. Despite the criticism, the show continues to captivate a large audience, reflecting the complex relationship between entertainment and societal challenges in Nigeria.
