The National Cybercrime Centre of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested popular prankster Zfancy in Abuja over his involvement in circulating threatening video pranks. The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Adejobi, Zfancy was apprehended at an apartment in the Wuye area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the circulation of accusatory videos on social media. These videos allegedly depicted Zfancy committing heinous crimes, including rape, causing significant apprehension and alarm among social media users.
In his defense, Zfancy claimed that the videos were scripted and part of an attempt to regain the spotlight after a break. However, ACP Adejobi emphasized that such actions have serious implications and cannot be taken lightly. "Regardless, such actions have serious implications and cannot be taken lightly,” he stated.
The police spokesman reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining public safety and ensuring accountability for actions that incite fear or disturb public peace. He also issued a warning to pranksters and content creators to remain law-abiding and mindful of pranks that could threaten public safety and jeopardize national security.
Adejobi further urged the public to remain calm as the Nigeria Police Force proceeds with the necessary legal actions in the case. This arrest underscores the importance of responsible content creation and the potential legal consequences of creating and sharing content that incites fear or causes public unrest.
