Popular Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has broken her silence after facing backlash for using a Niqab as a costume in an upcoming movie. The controversy erupted after Isime shared photos on her verified Instagram page showing herself and her female colleagues wearing Niqabs while holding guns, depicting a bank robbery scene.
Many Muslims, especially those who wear Niqabs, expressed their discontent, accusing the actress of disrespecting their religion and misrepresenting what the Niqab stands for. Critics argued that using religious attire in such a context perpetuates harmful stereotypes and disrespects the significance of the Niqab in Islamic culture.
An Instagram user, queen.ashreed, expressed disappointment with the cast, including @femiadebayosalami, calling it a total disgrace to Islam. Another user, thekaothar, sought to educate Nancy, explaining that a Muslim woman’s attire is a form of obedience to Allah's commands and not a means of disguise. Other comments echoed these sentiments, criticizing the portrayal as disrespectful and misguided.
In response to the backlash, Nancy Isime took to her Instagram page to share new photos and address the situation indirectly. She emphasized her focus on personal goals, making money, and maintaining peace, indicating that she is not interested in drama or gossip.
She posted, "Really out the way. In my own world. No drama, no gossip, Just goals and money. Peace is where I’m at." In another slide, she added, "I don’t bother nobody and I’m not bothered by nobody. That’s my peace."

Isime’s response suggests a desire to distance herself from the controversy and focus on her career and personal well-being. However, the debate continues online, highlighting the sensitive nature of religious representation in media and the importance of cultural sensitivity in filmmaking.
As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how it will impact the release and reception of the upcoming movie. Fans and critics alike are watching closely to see how the filmmakers and cast address these concerns moving forward.
