In a heated response, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has publicly condemned rising singer Ayo Maff for the "indecent" lyrics in his latest song, "Last Week."

The controversy centers around the song's opening verse, where Ayo Maff boasts about using Canadian Loud, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, early in the week and contacting his dealer by Saturday when he runs out.

The lyrics have sparked widespread concern, prompting SP Hundeyin to voice his disapproval on social media platform X. Addressing the song's message, SP Hundeyin expressed alarm over the glorification of drug use, highlighting its detrimental effects on the youth and its role as a precursor to criminal behavior.

“He does what on Mondays and Saturdays? Help me listen,” SP Hundeyin wrote, referencing the song's content. Drawing a parallel with Nigerian singer Asa's lyrics, he continued, “Like Asa said, there is fire on the mountain and nobody seems to be on the run…”

Hundeyin further emphasized the serious implications of drug abuse among young people, stating, “Fact: Half of the young ones in prison today wouldn’t be there if they didn’t do drugs. Drugs is a precursor to everything bad. Eni a wi fun…”

As the debate continues, the spotlight remains on Ayo Maff and his response to the backlash. This incident serves as a potent reminder of the powerful role artists play in shaping societal norms and the responsibility that comes with it.
