Nigerian afrobeats star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has made history by becoming the first African artist to surpass two billion streams in the United Kingdom. The singer was honored with a Brit plaque at his sold-out show at Koko Camden in London on Monday night to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
This milestone comes just weeks after Burna Boy received a Brit 1 billion streams plaque at his sold-out show at the London Stadium last month. The rapid succession of these accolades highlights Burna Boy's significant impact on the global music scene.
Upon receiving his Brit 2 billion streams plaque, Burna Boy expressed his gratitude and the struggles he faced to achieve such success. "Thank you very much. I appreciate you. Ehen, now that’s it. You’ve to fight for your right," he said.
One of the presenters remarked, "You already have it. You don’t need to fight," to which Burna Boy replied, "No. You know, we have to fight for our rights."
Burna Boy's achievements underscore the growing influence of afrobeats on the global stage and his role as a trailblazer for African artists in the international music industry. His dedication and perseverance serve as an inspiration to many aspiring musicians across the continent.
