The internet is buzzing with drama as Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido's daughter Imade, releases a statement accusing the Nigerian Afrobeats star of suing her for custody due to her refusal to give him sexual access while he is in a serious relationship with Chioma Rowland.
Sophia's statement alleges that Davido has not seen their daughter Imade since 2022 and has failed to pay her school fees or cater to her financially. She claims that despite her efforts to mediate and arrange a co-parenting agreement, Davido and his legal team have consistently refused to cooperate.
The statement issued by her legal representatives reads: “Since then, David has repeatedly threatened to make Sophia’s life miserable if she does not make herself available to him sexually.”
The statement also highlights Davido’s lack of contact with their daughter since July 2022, noting that despite Sophia not denying him access, Davido has allegedly chosen not to see their daughter. He has missed significant events in her life, such as her birthday and Christmas.
“Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions such as her birthday or Christmas for the past two years, which has left his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her,” her lawyers emphasized.
Ms. Momodu claimed that Davido has failed to pay for their daughter’s school fees since July 2022, resulting in repeated contacts from the school. Eventually, Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke, had to step in to settle the outstanding fees.
“David has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her school fees unpaid,” the statement added.
Since their breakup, Ms. Momodu has allegedly borne the financial burden alone, covering rent, living costs, healthcare, and other expenses for their daughter.
Despite these challenges, she recounted attempts to establish a formal co-parenting arrangement two years ago, which were allegedly rebuffed by Davido and his legal team.
“Two years ago, Sophia initiated efforts through her legal team to establish a formal co-parenting arrangement with David. But he and his lawyers have consistently refused to cooperate towards a mutually agreeable resolution. Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with,” her lawyers noted.
The statement also expressed Ms. Momodu's wish for Davido to do well in his public relationship and her intent to refrain from further comment.
“David is in a publicly known relationship, and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse. Sophia refrains from further comment as the matter has escalated into a legal dispute,” her lawyers stated.

Despite Davido frequently referring to Chioma as his wife, suggesting they may already be legally married, they are still anticipated to hold a formal wedding ceremony soon.
Davido further alleges that Sophia requested him to pay the nanny she hired $800 (N1.2 million) per month and an allowance of $19,600 (N28.7 million) per month for her upkeep.
The conflicting allegations from both parties have ignited a wave of reactions from fans and followers, adding fuel to the ongoing controversy.
