The National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) has issued a stern warning to content creators, emphasizing that releasing music videos, skits, and films without proper classification is an offence. This announcement comes as the NFVCB expands its classification requirements to include these types of audiovisual content.

The NFVCB's classification system is designed to assign age ratings and content advisories, aiding families in making informed viewing choices and protecting children from unsuitable material. In a recent interview with the DAILY POST, NFVCB Director General Shaibu Husseini highlighted the importance of this system in ensuring that all audiovisual content is appropriately rated.

In a statement made available on Wednesday, Husseini reiterated the board's position, warning content creators against the distribution of unclassified material. "It is also an offence to distribute or exhibit any film or video content, musical videos, and skits on any platform without recourse to the National Film and Video Censors Board for classification," he stated.

Husseini also revealed that the NFVCB is collaborating with relevant security agencies to track down individuals and production companies involved in distributing unclassified content, ensuring they face legal consequences. "We are collaborating with relevant security agencies to track any individuals and production companies involved to make sure they face the full wrath of the law," he said.

In addition, the board condemned the promotion and distribution of same-sex content on the internet, noting that it is illegal to publicly exhibit same-sex relationships in Nigeria.

This move by the NFVCB underscores its commitment to regulating the content available to the Nigerian public, ensuring it aligns with cultural values and legal standards. Content creators are urged to comply with these regulations to avoid legal repercussions and contribute to a responsible media environment.
