Dr. Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, has extended his congratulations to the Rangers International Football Club of Enugu for clinching the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with a game to spare. The team secured their victory with a 2-0 win over Bendel Insurance Football Club at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday.
He emphasized the importance of sports infrastructure, noting that restoring the pitch was a top priority upon taking office. This decision not only motivated the players but also allowed Rangers to play their home matches at The Cathedral, boosting morale and creating a sense of pride within the team.
Goals from Kenechukwu Agu in the 33rd minute and Chidiebere Nwobodo in the 65th minute sealed the win for the Fidelis Ilechukwu-led team, earning them their eighth league title and their second since 2016. Their closest competitors, Remo Stars and Enyimba Football Club, both suffered defeats in their match-day 37 fixtures against Sunshine Stars and Sporting Lagos, respectively, leaving Rangers with an unassailable 67-point lead with one game remaining.
