In a dramatic turn of events, social media influencer and critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman, has been remanded in police custody by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court's decision on Wednesday follows his arraignment on five counts of cyberstalking by the Nigeria Police Force.

Our source reports that during the hearing, Verydarkman's lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, applied for bail on behalf of his client. However, the prosecution requested additional time to respond to the bail application, prompting Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon to adjourn the hearing to May 29.

Initially, the police prosecution sought to have Verydarkman remanded in prison custody. In response, his legal team requested that he be kept in police custody instead. The court agreed to this request, resulting in Verydarkman's transfer to the National Cybercrime Centre.

This is not the first time Verydarkman has faced legal issues related to cyberbullying. In March 2024, he was remanded for a similar offense. The 27-year-old influencer, known for his controversial opinions and fearless critiques, has been a polarizing figure in the public eye since January of this year.

As the legal proceedings continue, the social media landscape closely watches the outcome of Verydarkman's case. The upcoming bail hearing on May 29 will be a critical moment for the influencer, who remains a significant and contentious presence online.
