Efe Warri Boy Criticizes Reinstatement of Nigeria’s Old National Anthem

Popular comedian Efe Warri Boy has joined the chorus of voices reacting to the recent reinstatement of Nigeria’s old national anthem, "Nigeria, We Hail Thee." In a video message shared on his Instagram account, Efe Warri Boy criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the move, suggesting it is an attempt by the president to gain favor through symbolic gestures rather than effective governance.

In his candid message, Efe Warri Boy remarked, “President Bola Tinubu has been trying to impress Nigerians, which has not been working for him. He is now trying to become a hero through the backdoor by changing the National Anthem [laughs].”

The comedian went on to suggest that the president could have sought governance advice from the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, implying that Tinubu’s focus should be on substantive improvements rather than superficial changes. “He should have gone to the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, to seek advice on governance. There is nothing someone won’t see in this administration. You can’t become a hero through the backdoor. Show workings, sir. You want people to remember you for changing the national anthem.”

Efe Warri Boy also highlighted the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians, expressing frustration over the administration's perceived incompetence. “Nigerians deserved better. The hardship in the country is increasing. What the president is doing shows he is incompetent,” he added.

The decision to reinstate the old anthem has been met with mixed reactions across the country. While some see it as a nostalgic nod to Nigeria's past, others, like Efe Warri Boy, view it as a distraction from more pressing issues such as economic instability and governance failures.

As the debate continues, the call for more substantive action from the government grows louder. Many Nigerians are demanding tangible improvements in their daily lives rather than symbolic changes that do little to address the core challenges facing the nation.
