In a dramatic twist, Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, famously known as Portable, has been released from the custody of the Lagos State Police Command. This development follows his forceful arrest on Tuesday over allegations of failing to complete the payment for a luxury G-Wagon.
Portable, known for his hit song ‘Zazzu,’ had purchased a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 from Lagos-based car dealer Ogunsanwo Temitope, also known as Temmy Autos. However, the deal turned sour when Portable allegedly paid only N13 million of the N27 million price tag, refusing to settle the remaining N14 million.
The arrest, which was widely criticized and caught on camera, sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the police's heavy-handed tactics.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Portable's release to Vanguard on Wednesday evening. When questioned about whether Portable had resolved the financial dispute, Hundeyin stated, “I have no idea about it but what I can say is that he has been granted bail.”
Meanwhile, Portable updated his Instagram channel to confirm his release. See below:
This unfolding saga has not only captivated fans but also ignited a broader debate on the role of law enforcement in civil matters, highlighting the tension between public figures and the justice system.
