EFCC, Chidi Odinkalu Trade Words Over Bobrisky's Arrest And Prosecution

Chidi Odinkalu, former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission earlier called out EFCC over what he described as an abuse of power, criticizing the commission for the way they treated Bobrisky.

In a series of tweets, the former Human Rights boss lampoons the body tagging it shameless and describing Bobrisky's arrest as evidence of idleness and abuse of power. He further queried Nigerians for ignoring the most important issue like the electricity tariff hike to focus on Bobrisky as if he was responsible for it.

However, the commission has reacted to the tweets issuing an official statement on its official X handle.
The body expressed its displeasure with Odinkalu's comments, considering them inappropriate for someone who held a prominent position in a government agency.

The Commission reiterated that Okuneye was arrested and arraigned based on clear cases of abuse of the Naira, to which he has already pleaded guilty.

While acknowledging Odinkalu's right to free speech as a Nigerian, the EFCC emphasized the importance of exercising this right with decorum and responsibility. The Commission warned that it would not hesitate to take legal action against any individual who makes uncouth comments against its lawful mandate.

EFCC advised Odinkalu to express his opinions more responsibly in the future to avoid further incidents.

See the statement below:

However, Odinkalu didn't roll over as expected after the statement was issued by EFCC. Infact he replied the commission's tweet via his X handle. He reiterated what he earlier said about the commission being shameless. He added that EFCC being beclouded by abuse of power is idle and disorderly.

His tweet goes:

"It is now self evident that @officialEFCC is a shameless, #IdleAndDisorderly institution whose sole preoccupation is #AbuseOfPower. This is beyond unfortunate but entirely predictable."

See Odinkalu's response below:

An African proverb says that when two elephants fight, the grass suffers the most. Well, we shall see how this exchange imparts the Bobrisky's case and hope he does not suffer the consequence of the words of Odinkalu.
