Popular Yoruba Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has taken a step to appeal his five-year jail term at the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court.

Baba Ijesha is seeking to overturn his conviction by a Lagos State High Court for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.

On July 12, 2022, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sentenced the Yoruba Nollywood actor to five years in prison for the sexual assault of a minor.

Dissatisfied with the judgment, Baba Ijesha has now approached the Appeal Court to challenge the sentence.

Represented by his counsel, Kayode Olabiran, Baba Ijesha argued before the Appeal Court that he was set up and that his actions were part of a scripted scenario orchestrated by his colleague, Damilola Adekoya.

"The appellant was set up. The appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya," Olabiran stated.

However, the Director of Public Prosecution, Babajide Martins, countered, urging the court to dismiss the appeal for lacking merit and being based on a misconception.

Martins further urged the court to uphold the judgment of the lower court.
