Joeboy clarifies: Wizkid is not abandoning Afrobeats, just misunderstood

Nigerian singer Joeboy has spoken out in support of Wizkid, clarifying that Wizkid's recent remarks about Afrobeats were misinterpreted. 

Wizkid faced backlash for stating that he wants to move away from being solely associated with Afrobeats, emphasizing that he explores a diverse range of musical styles.

During a recent appearance on the Big Friday Day Show with Tacha on Cool FM in Lagos, Joeboy addressed the controversy surrounding Wizkid's comments. 

He clarified that Wizkid was not trying to distance himself from Afrobeats, but rather emphasizing that artists should not be limited to one genre. Joeboy emphasized that while Afrobeats is their identity, artists are capable of exploring and creating music in other genres as well.

In his words:

“Wizkid’s statement is being misunderstood, he is not running away from Afrobeats. All we are saying is our identity is Afrobeats but please don’t box us because we can make other genres of music too.”
