Today Tuesday 12 March 2024 has been declared a march for freedom with the hashtag #IStandWithChiomaOkoli.
For those who have forgotten, Chioma is the content creator and customer who posted a review about Erisco Tomato Paste last year. The review did not sit well with the company that manufactures the tomato paste which made them go after her.
Nollywood Times recalls that Erisco Food, the manufacturer of Nagiko Tomato Paste, provided insight into the arrest of Chioma Egodi, a Facebook user who posted a negative review of the product.
According to Erisco Food's spokesperson, the company believed Egodi's post was intended to mislead customers and discredit the company. The company released a statement denying the claims and stating its commitment to quality products. Erisco Food also confirmed writing a petition to the police to investigate the matter.
However, the police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated on social media that he was unaware of the case and that further investigation was needed to ascertain the details of Egodi's arrest. Chioma was later released on bail by the police.
A few months down the line, some human rights activists rose up to defend her on the premise of freedom of speech. The News video made by Arise News when she was heard for the very first time two weeks ago has shared severally which brought the issue again to the limelight. See the post below:
The Chairman of Erisco has also been in the news lately about how he used his connections to bully Chioma and purported Igbo businessmen who he said were the ones who sent Chioma.
See the post below:
Why is Eric Umeofia not going after the Nnewi Business men he believes sent Chioma? Why not mention their names with proof? He lied on Channels TV that he has his evidence, so why not charge them all to court? Why not arrest them one by one like you did to Chioma?

The solidarity walk is to commence at 8am and the set-off point is Kadiri Street, Off Oregun Road, Ikeja Lagos. The sponsors include Purple Women Foundation, Women Advocates Research & Documentation Centre (WARDC) and Enough is Enough Nigeria
Chioma is currently trending on X and today Tuesday has been earmarked to protest on the issue.
A user @General_Oluchi posted on her verified X handle a video except from News Central about the case. She wrote:

I was planning to make a video but this is just perfect!
Impunity has no place in our society. @PoliceNG @FCT_PoliceNG must not do the bidding of evil men and women in the society!
Thank you, Ireti-Bakare-Yusuf for this… pic.twitter.com/Xs8KFyXeub
The real issue was the way Erisco reacted to the review. A video trended about what Gino did when such a review was posted online by a user on X. The Gino company quickly did damage control and reached out to the customer to make amends.
See the post below:
This is a real review of Gino tomato paste by a customer in a video, @ginonaija, quickly & respectfully on frame 2. This is what @EriscoOfficial CEO should have done, but he zero into bullying Chioma because he thinks he can mess her up and nobody will query him#IStandWithChioma pic.twitter.com/KDOKVAfFYg
