International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th every year to honor the achievements and contributions of women around the world. It is a day to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, as well as to raise awareness about gender equality and women's rights.
There are many ways to celebrate International Women's Day, including organizing events and activities that highlight the achievements of women, hosting panel discussions and workshops on gender equality and women's rights, and supporting women-owned businesses and organizations.
Today the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, led the people of Lagos to celebrate and honour the women on this special day at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
Below was his address:
Today was a landmark day for the heart of our vibrant city as we gathered at Onikan Stadium to mark International Women's Day.
It was an honour to host this grand event, bringing together women from every corner of Lagos State in a celebration of unity, diversity, and empowerment.
Seeing the stadium filled with so many inspiring women, each with her own story of resilience, achievement, and hope, was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together.
We celebrated not just the progress we've made, but also the journey ahead towards full equality and empowerment for all women.
Our administration is committed to supporting every woman in Lagos, recognizing that when women thrive, our society thrives. Today, we reaffirmed our pledge to create more opportunities, dismantle barriers, and ensure that every woman and girl in Lagos has the support she needs to reach her full potential.
To the incredible women of Lagos, thank you for your courage, your dedication, and your invaluable contributions to our state. Let's continue to stand together, support each other, and work towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
Happy International Women's Day! Here's to many more achievements and milestones together.
