In recent statistics released by
@StatsSpotify, Nigeria ranked 27th in the Top Countries' Total Daily Streams as of February 27. The Top 50 Countries by stream usually released from time to time has shown once again why Nigeria is called the giant of Africa.

In today's world smartphone technology and the internet has changed the way people listen to music. Before, it had to be either you download songs music and save them in an MP3 player for keeps. However, today that has changed, people can now stream different songs through streaming and media platforms.

There are different types of streaming platforms today but the most popular of them is Spotify. Spotify, founded on April 23, 2006, by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, is a Swedish audio streaming and media service provider. It has grown to become one of the largest music streaming service providers, with over 602 million monthly active users, including 236 million paying subscribers, as of December 2023.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange through a Luxembourg City-domiciled holding company, Spotify Technology S.A., the platform offers a vast array of digital copyright-restricted recorded audio content. This includes over 100 million songs and five million podcasts sourced from various record labels and media companies.

Spotify operates on a freemium model, offering basic features for free with advertisements and limited control. Additional features, such as offline listening and commercial-free listening, are available through paid subscriptions. Users can search for music based on artist, album, or genre, and have the ability to create, edit, and share playlists.

While Nigeria ranked 27th globally with 4,746,543 streams daily, in Africa it ranked number 1. Egypt ranked 37th and number in Africa with 3,027,243 streams and South African stands as number three in Africa but 39th globally with 2,911,281 streams.

United States of America still holds tenaciously to the number one spot with a whooping
109,529,557 streams, Mexico hot on the US's heels taking the second spot with 78,104,309 streams. Brazil danced the samba into number 3 with 53,194,819 streams.

Nigeria still maintains its giant status in terms of music and entertainment making them rival the likes of South Africa in Afrobeats and Ampiano which makes us question the Grammys once again.

This is another reason for singers to embrace Spotify and fight for relevance on the platform to increase their reach as well as smile to the bank.
