'Oppenheimer' Dominates BAFTA 2024 Awards with 13 Nominations, 'Poor Things' Secures 11

 The BAFTA Awards have announced their nominations for this year's ceremony, with the film "Oppenheimer" leading the pack with 13 nominations. Directed by Christopher Nolan, "Oppenheimer" is a historical drama that explores the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who played a key role in the development of the atomic bomb.

Following closely behind is "Poor Things," directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, which earned 11 nominations. The film is a dark comedy that stars Emma Stone as a woman who is brought back to life with the brain of a deceased man.

Other notable films that received multiple nominations include "The Power of the Dog" with 10 nominations, "Dune" with 9 nominations, and "Licorice Pizza" with 8 nominations.

In the acting categories, Benedict Cumberbatch received a nomination for Best Actor for his role in "The Power of the Dog," while Kirsten Dunst was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in "The Power of the Dog" as well. Supporting actor nominations went to Kodi Smit-McPhee for "The Power of the Dog" and Ariana DeBose for "West Side Story."

The BAFTA Awards, which celebrate excellence in film and television, will take place on February 18th, 2024

According to Hollywood Reporter, the event would be streamed in the U.K., by BBC One and BBC streamer iPlayer. Streamer BritBox International will present it in the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and South Africa.
