Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has opened up about receiving death threats following pregnancy rumors circulating about her.
The speculation emerged after Tems was seen at Burberry's Spring/Summer 2024 London Fashion Week show, where her outfit sparked rumors of pregnancy due to the way it clung to her body.
In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Tems disclosed that she faced death threats through social media direct messages. People questioned her choice of American rapper Future, whom rumors suggested was responsible for her alleged pregnancy.
Tems clarified that she has never met Future, despite their collaboration on the Grammy-winning song "Wait For U" alongside Drake.
She said: “When I heard [the rumours] that I was pregnant, I didn’t actually think anybody believed it. I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I’ve never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”
Tems also disclosed during the interview that she “would like to direct a video for Asake.”
She said: “I love him. I can tell that he is very artistic.”
She explained that her likeness for the YBNL star is “just for work, just to direct his [music] video.”
