"Shanty Town" emerges as a top-performing Nollywood drama on Netflix Africa

The popular movie series "Shanty Town" has been declared the most-streamed Netflix African Original in Nigeria and the second most-streamed across the continent, according to Netflix's first-ever "What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report."

The report covers hours viewed from January to June 2023, reflecting subscriber preferences.

Produced by Chinenye Nworah, "Shanty Town" is a crime drama that portrays the dark and chaotic life of the Lagos underground, focusing on the struggles of residents in a Lagos slum.

The series gained 27.3 million hours of views between January and June 2023. It follows "Unseen," a South African mystery thriller, which holds the top spot with 60 million hours of total views.

Directed by Dimeji Ajibola, "Shanty Town" features a star-studded cast, including Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Mercy Eke, Nancy Isime, Zubby Michael, Uche Jombo, RMD, and Peter Okoye (P-Square).

The "What We Watched" report is expected to be a biannual release, providing insights into viewership trends, including hours viewed, premiere dates, and global availability. Chinenye Nworah also recently produced another series titled "Slum King," an African Magic original 10-episode series.
