Renowned singer Divine Ikubor, who is popularly known as Rema, has confidently declared that he has accomplished enough to secure a place in the Afrobeats Hall of Fame.
At just 23 years old, the singer affirmed that he has no intentions of retiring from music anytime soon. He expressed his belief that even if he were to stop making music right now, his name would still have a prominent place in the "Afrobeats bible."
In Rema's words, if there were to be an Afrobeats bible, he would be featured on the front page of the "New Testament."
These statements were made by Rema while he graced the cover of the fourth edition of i-D Magazine's "The New Wave" issue.
“I’m not saying I want to stop. But if I say I want to stop right now, my name is still going to be on the Afrobeats bible, if there is an Afrobeats bible to be dropped. I’ll literally be in the New Testament, on the front page,” he said.
The artist behind "Calm Down" also reflected on the early days of his career, revealing how he faced ridicule for his Bollywood-soundtrack-inspired sound when he rose to stardom in 2019.
He said, “Everything they doubted, everything they laughed at me for, I built on it. They called me Indian Boy; I went to India. I’m the first artist to shut down four cities in India, 5000 capacity and above. No one can deny that I’ve impacted Afrobeats on a global scale.”
