The organizers of Afro Nation, recognized as the largest Afrobeats festival in the world, have regrettably decided to cancel their highly-anticipated concert in Nigeria. Afro Nation is an annual celebration of the African diaspora and is renowned as one of the premier global music events.
The Afro Nation festival was introduced four years ago in Portugal. In September, the organizers had announced December 19 and 20 as the dates for their inaugural concert in Nigeria, which was set to take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State.
However, in a statement issued by Smade, co-founder of Afro Nation, the organizers declared the cancellation of the festival. The statement conveyed that regrettably, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos would not be happening. The organizers expressed their commitment to maintaining high standards and noted that it had become apparent that delivering a show of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023 was currently unattainable.
“We have put on incredible shows in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico. Miami and Detroit but Nigeria holds a special place in our hearts, so we are heartbroken not to be able to celebrate with you this year.
“Please know, we are 188% committed to creating an Afro Nation show in Lagos that we can all be proud of.
“To those who have purchased tickets, We will refund all tickets including booking fees. Ticket buyers do not need to do anything but will receive an email with information outlining the refund process.”
