Music executive, Kenny Ogungbe, has successfully completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.

Kenny Ogungbe, well-known for his significant impact on the Nigerian music industry through his Kennis Music label in the early 20s, shared photos of his Passing Out Parade on social media with the following caption:

“NYSC graduation/POP today. Lagos/12C graduation day. To God be the glory.”

The post sparked various reactions, particularly from those pointing out that he had exceeded the age limit of 30 years and was ineligible to participate in the scheme.

According to Section 2 of the NYSC Act, any citizen who has graduated from a tertiary institution, both within and outside Nigeria, and is below the age of 30, is required to undergo the one-year compulsory national youth service. Those above 30 years old are not eligible for the program.

Kenny Ogungbe's situation has reignited discussions about the participation of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mrs. Hannatu Musawa, in the NYSC.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) had previously raised concerns about Musawa, who, like Ogungbe, is above the age of 30, participating in the program.

This raised public outrage, especially after Eddy Megwa, the NYSC spokesman, confirmed that Musawa was in violation of the NYSC Act by holding a government office during her service, as he stated in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust in August.

It remains unclear whether Musawa belonged to the same batch as Ogungbe or if she is still an active corps member.

Below are Ogungbe’s pictures:
