‘I was only trying to correct her’ – Stepdaughter's murder leads to arrest of teenage housewife.

In the Bauchi metropolis, a tragic incident unfolded on September 28, 2023, involving an 18-year-old pregnant housewife named Khadija Adamu.

Khadija was arrested by the Bauchi State Police for the death of five year old stepdaughter.

Khadija denied killing her, she claimed that her actions were solely meant to scold Hafsat for soiling her pants. Khadija expressed deep remorse for the tragic outcome of her disciplinary actions.

The Bauchi State Police Command paraded Khadija on Tuesday, this week, bringing attention to this heartbreaking case.

The incident occurred in the Kandahar area, leaving the community in shock and mourning for the loss of a young life.

The Police spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, stated that the suspect was brought to the A Divisional Police headquarters by her husband, Abdulaziz Adamu, 38.

He reported that she had assaulted the victim due to an alleged incident where the victim soiled her clothes.

Khadija, in an interview at the Command headquarters, explained the events leading to Hafsat's death.

She expressed disbelief at the accusation of killing a child who was like her own. Despite being her co-wife's child, Hafsat was also hers.

“What happened was just a mistake and not a deliberate intention to kill.

“I am also a mother, and I am currently four months pregnant with my second child. How can I possibly kill another child? What happened was that this girl defecated on her body, and I felt that at her age, she shouldn’t have done that, so I used a USB cord to beat her with it. It was not as if I had any intention of killing her.

“I didn’t know she would die. I only wanted to correct her. She didn’t die that day I beat her, it was the next day that she died, and I felt very sad and unhappy that she had died.”
