The organizers of the Billboard Music Awards have introduced nine new categories this year, including Top Afrobeats Artist and Top Afrobeats Song.
In the inaugural Top Afrobeats Artist category, Nigerian artists Rema, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems were nominated, along with Cameroonian diva Libianca.
Nominees in the inaugural Top Afrobeats Song category include Rema's "Calm Down" with Selena Gomez, Ayra Starr's "Rush," Oxlade's "Ku Lo Sa," Libianca's "People," and Victony's "Soweto" with Rema and Don Toliver.
Furthermore, Rema's "Calm Down" with Selena Gomez received nominations in the Top Billboard Collaboration, Top Billboard Excl. U.S. Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song, and Top Radio Song categories, bringing his total nominations to seven.
The nominations for this year's Billboard Music Awards were officially announced by the organizers on Thursday through their website and social media platforms.
Taylor Swift, the American superstar, leads the nominees with 20 nominations, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist.
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards are scheduled for Sunday, November 19, and will be presented by Marriott Bonvoy.
