Despite having seven nominations, Nigerian singer Burna Boy left the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards empty-handed. The awards ceremony took place at Atlanta's Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on October 3, 2023, with the broadcast occurring on Tuesday night, October 10, 2023.

In a surprising turn of events, Burna Boy lost out in all seven nominated categories. Kendrick Lamar took home the awards for Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year.

Burna Boy also missed out on the Hustler of the Year award, which was claimed by 50 Cent, and the Best Collaboration of the Year for his song 'Sittin' On Top Of The World' featuring 21 Savage, with Lil Durk and J. Cole's 'All My Life' winning in that category.

His other losses include Best Hip Hop Video for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ feat, 21 Savage to Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Just Wanna Rock’, and Song of the Year to the same song.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian prodigy, Black Sherif won the Best International Flow category defeating South Africa’s late AKA and K.O, France’s Gazo and Ninho, UK’s J Hus, Central Cee and others.
