Mohbad: Oba Elegushi disowns Sam Larry

The Elegushi Royal Family of the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom in Lagos State has officially distanced itself from the socialite Samson Balogun, popularly known as Sam Larry. 

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 14, 2023, the royal family clarified their relationship with him, stating that Sam Larry only visits to pay respects to the king and seek blessings, much like any other member of the public.

Furthermore, while extending their condolences to the family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, the royal family also called for a thorough investigation into the tragic death of the 27-year-old artist.

The statement read, inter alia: “Samson Balogun [Sam Larry] is not a member of the royal family and don’t work for the royal family or the king in any capacity. Like other celebrities, politicians, religious and community leaders, he visits the palace to pay homage to the king and seek royal blessings, just like other members of the public.

“While expressing our condolences to the family and friends of late Ilerioluwa Aloba (known as MohBad), we would like to add our voices to the calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death to unravel any foul play.”

According to our source, Sam Larry, a known associate of Mohbad's former record label boss, Naira Marley, faced significant backlash on social media following the emergence of a video showing him and his associates disrupting Mohbad's video shoot with Zlatan Ibile.

Also, Nollywood Times reported that a petition purported to have been written by Mohbad before passing away released online claimed that Larry was working for the king. 

Tragically, Mohbad passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2023, just under a year after his contentious departure from Marlian Music, the record label owned by Naira Marley.
