The Portugal skipper, none other than the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo, will be conspicuously absent from Monday's high-stakes Euro 2024 qualifying clash against Luxembourg.
In their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Slovakia last Friday, the Al-Nassr forward found himself in the referee's book after a yellow card booking.
But Ronaldo's fortune seemed to know no bounds as he inadvertently made contact with his former Manchester United comrade, Martin Dubravka, with an ill-fated stray boot to the face.
In a surprising turn of events, the match official, Glenn Nyberg, opted to brandish only a yellow card for the incident, and Ronaldo narrowly escaped more severe consequences following a VAR review.
However, the suspension hammer has now fallen on Ronaldo, as the yellow card he received marks his third transgression in the European Championship qualifying campaign, rendering him ineligible for the upcoming critical clash.
