Do you remember Sikirullahi Olanrewaju Dabiri, veteran Nigerian hip-hop artist known as Eldee The Don?
Yeah, many might not remember him because he left the country unceremoniously. However, for those who know him and wish to know why he left, then read this news this is because Eldee has revealed the reasons behind his departure from the music scene and his subsequent relocation abroad.
Eldee, a former member of the now disbanded Trybesmen, shared that he made the decision to leave the country in order to clear his mind. This choice was prompted by a distressing incident where he fell victim to a scam orchestrated by an advisory firm. This firm had collected funds from certain investors, falsely assuring them that their money was being invested in his music endeavors.
The rapper unveiled these details during his appearance on the latest edition of the King of Talks podcast, hosted by comedian Teju Babyface.
He said, “What happened was that, Shayman introduced me to a gentleman called Tonye Akindele, who at a time had a capital advisory firm. What they do is to look for business to invest in. They have people who fund those portfolios.
“So they approached me for a partnership. And I accepted. But unbeknown to me, what was happening was him [Tonye Akindele] and his partner had the people who were funding the record label but the label was not getting money. I was still funding my music.”
According to Eldee, it took him nearly a year to recognize that he had fallen victim to a scam, resulting in significant debts on his part.
He shared that certain team members had even relocated from abroad to Nigeria, leaving their families behind, in order to contribute to the project. Sadly, despite their efforts, they ultimately received nothing in return.
