Tension as UNICAL plans to recall students’ lists sent to Law School by randy Professor [Video]

The University of Calabar's administration is contemplating the potential recall of student lists submitted to the Nigerian Law School within the past two years. This decision is prompted by serious allegations concerning the former dean of the Faculty of Law at the university, Prof Cyril Ndifon. Prof Ndifon was recently suspended due to accusations of engaging in sex scandals.

These allegations suggest that Prof Ndifon may have manipulated the student lists to show favoritism towards female students with whom he allegedly had inappropriate relationships.

Speaking to the press in response to media reports, Prof Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University, addressed the allegations made last week. These allegations assert that Prof Ndifon sexually assaulted female students and often bypassed due process, favoring students who succumbed to his inappropriate advances.

Our source reported that female law undergraduates staged a public protest a few days ago, using placards to call for the removal of Prof Ndifon in light of the ongoing accusations of sexual misconduct.

As a consequence of the scandal, the Vice Chancellor revealed that a substantial overhaul of the Faculty of Law was deemed necessary. The decision stems from the multitude of allegations against Prof Ndifon, which encompass not only sexual misconduct but also authoritative conduct, alleged sexual assaults, overbearing attitudes, and the marginalization of other vital academic staff within the faculty.

“Management resolved with the staff on the need for some basic changes to be effected in the faculty to avoid the continuous overbearing influence and power of any Dean of the Faculty of Law over the students,” she stated.

The Vice Chancellor (VC) also outlined additional measures to be implemented. These measures encompass the establishment of a committee responsible for overseeing the mobilization of students to the Law School. Additionally, a review and potential recall of the students' list sent to the Law School will be undertaken. The removal of the two examination officers is part of these measures, along with the formation of a Result Vetting Committee.

Further actions involve creating a Students' Project Committee tasked with assigning project supervisors to undergraduates. An Admission Committee will be set up to assess Direct Entry admissions. Another committee will be established to update the existing Standard Operations Procedure (SOP) of the university. This update will address the specific characteristics of the Faculty of Law, seeking Senate approval. Additionally, a new sub-dean will be appointed to the faculty.

Contemplations also include appointing a new interim chairman for the Faculty's Post-Graduate School Board. Furthermore, a committee will be established to review and allocate courses for the semester in compliance with the university's Quality Assurance procedure.

The university authorities have also directed the dean and the sub-dean to submit various documents, including result scripts, question papers, marking guides, and examination attendance lists from the past two sessions. These materials are to be submitted to the Director of Quality Assurance.

Prof Obi has further mandated that a panel be convened to investigate allegations of extortions attributed to Prof Ndifon. If found guilty, he will be required to reimburse any illicit funds collected from students under different sub-categories.
