Yesterday, August 25th, 2023, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, renowned as Burnaboy and a recipient of the Grammy Award, unveiled his seventh studio album titled "I Told Them."

Comprising 15 tracks, the album showcases collaborations with prominent artists including rapper J Cole, 21 Savage, Dave, Bryon Messiah, and Nigeria's own Seyi Vibez.

Burnaboy's album release follows his recent statement where he characterized Afrobeats as lacking substance, leading him to coin his own genre called Afro Fusion.

Among the album's tracks are notable titles such as "I Told Them," "Normal," "On Form," "Sittin’ On Top Of The World," "Tested, Proved and Trusted," "Cheat on Me," "Virgil," "Big 7," "Dey Play," "City Boys," "Giza," "Jewels," "IF I’M Flying," "Thanks," and the bonus track "Talibans II."

Nonetheless, Burnaboy's latest album, "I Told Them," has become a trending subject of discussion on the popular microblogging platform Twitter. This surge in conversation, however, has yielded mixed reactions.

Numerous listeners who have experienced the album shared their opinions, with some expressing that none of the tracks on Burnaboy's new release exhibit the potential to break records akin to those found in 'Love Damini,' particularly highlighting the impact of 'Last Last.'

Leading the group of users commenting is the controversial Twitter influencer, Daniel Regha who wrote:

“Burna’s new album (I Told Them) is a 3/10, it’s the w¤rst effort from Burna since he started his career. The beats are great but the songs had n¤ substance; The entire album also promoted p¤mposity, encouraged v!olence & explicit lyrics. Furthermore, the album title doesn’t correlate with the theme. Burna also dissing Nigerians in “Thanks” ft J. Cole was not cool, plus some intros were n¤t necessary. The album was n¤t worth the wait or hype. No offense.”

Here are some of the comments:

@Olamide0fficial: Burna Boy’s new album is literally a response to internet trolls. It’s clear everything twitter people have been saying are getting under his skin 🥴.

@KinqKudos: This is actually Burna boy’s worst album since 2018. He put together 15 garbages and called it a body of work. The album lacks substance and proper ingredients. I rate it 4/10.

@obajemujnr: “I told them” by Burna just made me appreciate “timeless” more; the energy Davido injected in that album is absolutely unmatched. Burna Boy drifted from afrobeat to afro-sampling. Hopefully his fans enjoy Afro-repetition.

@Lirahagain: This is Burna’s worst album ever.

@Shine04jr: I’d rate Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ album a 2/10. While the production quality might be commendable, it’s essential to highlight the glaring lack of depth and substance in the lyrical content. Music, especially from an artist of Burna Boy’s caliber, should evoke emotion, tell a story, or at the very least, convey a profound message. Unfortunately, about 90% of the tracks in this album felt superficial and lacked the depth one would expect.

@_the_khalid: 2/10 Na seyi vibes get that 2 sef J cole did rubbish on d album.

@Neyoo06: Na -4 I give ham as it stands….I might still have to take more marks from him before the day ends…. I’m still trying to figure it out here because I don’t know how a Burna boy would dropped such a mid song… na like this he wan win Grammy award? You guys need to tell him the truth fr.

@ejikeodika: Before I judge or rate album now, I will wait 1 month 😂 From no where it might end up as the best album in 2023 😩.
