Nollywood sensation, Lizzy Anjorin, blazed a trail of fiery words in a live Instagram interaction, taking on fans who dared to address her with the Islamic titles she once embraced fervently as a Muslim convert.
Lizzy Anjorin, who recently sparked a digital showdown with Iyabo Ojo as recalled by Nollywood Times, underscored her preference for being hailed by her traditional moniker, Yeye Mesho.
In the video, the actress unreservedly declared her detachment from Islam and the Muslim community, citing an onslaught of relentless online bullying and harassment as the catalyst.
She pinpointed her decision to the lack of support she felt from fellow Muslims and Islamic organizations during her trials. Casting a verbal salvo at a fan named Dammy, Lizzy Anjorin rebuked in Yoruba: "Don't ever call me Alhaja or Iya Adini again; I did not see any Muslim defend me on social media."
The filmmaker, once identified as Christian, undertook a sudden conversion to Islam about a decade ago. She revealed that her shift was prompted by pastors' refusal to assist in her mother's burial rites.
Detailing the backstory, Anjorin explained that her mother, who hailed from a Muslim family, had explicitly expressed her wish not to be taken to a mortuary upon her demise. “I could remember right from when I was a teenager, my mother used to tell me that she does not want her dead body to be taken to the mortuary when she dies,” Anjorin penned on Instagram.
Despite her roots, the actress noted that due to their shared struggles, her family slept in a church many times, thus gravitating towards Christianity. However, when it came to her mother's funeral, Anjorin revealed that at least ten pastors declined to perform the last rites, citing her mother's non-membership in their congregations.
