In the wake of heightened security concerns and an alarming surge in insecurity across the nation, Kate Henshaw, a seasoned Nollywood actress, has fervently called upon the Federal Government to dismantle the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. This resounding demand echoes against the backdrop of the recent abduction of eight NYSC members along a perilous highway in Zamfara State, a stark reminder of the precarious conditions many young individuals are forced to endure.

A trailblazer in the Nigerian film industry, Kate Henshaw, took to the digital platform Twitter on Wednesday to raise her voice against the backdrop of the evolving crisis. In her unyielding statement, she emphasized the criticality of protecting the lives of the nation's youth, declaring that the hitherto assured safety of Corps members could no longer be guaranteed. As such, Henshaw's logical deduction follows that the NYSC scheme, once a symbol of unity and national integration, should be obliterated given the prevailing climate of danger and uncertainty.

The recent kidnapping incident in Zamfara State serves as a chilling reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by NYSC members who, driven by patriotic fervor, embark on their service journeys across the nation. The incident has ignited a spark of outrage and concern among citizens who were already grappling with escalating security challenges in various regions.

Henshaw's resolute stance underscores the urgent need for the government to address the escalating security crisis as it pertains to the safety of its youth.

As Nigeria confronts these critical questions concerning the safety and well-being of its future leaders, Kate Henshaw's call for the disbandment of the NYSC program stands as a testament to the voices of those advocating for change in the midst of adversity. In a nation where unity is paramount, the challenge lies in finding a way to uphold this unity while safeguarding the lives of the very individuals who represent its promise.

The thespian urged the government to “stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas.”

She wrote, “When I served in the North, it was a very memorable experience. Travelling from Bauchi by road to the airport was safe & then flying to Lagos just with my NYSC ID card, which also got me rebate on my ticket.

“It’s time to scrap this idea since corpers can’t travel within this country without let or hindrance!

“Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas. Security is a priority & needs to be sorted totally, not technically.”
